Study Update - 3rd April 2010

My exams are in two weeks and I have only really finished one book given by Mumbai University. The funny thing is that each of these books has a preface where they state that reading these books is sure to make you fail, not because they are that bad (or so they claim) but because this is just the starting point from where my real reading has to "take off".

The list of reference books runs into 100s so there is no chance of me ever finishing all of them. This calls for some smart work instead of hard work. So I am reading the MU books first and then plan to read a set of readers my friend has generously provided.

Now the problem is that I have already whiled away most of my distance-learning academic year working hard in my office. However, all is not lost. I received a manifestation in the form of my office banning anyone from working after 8 PM. Now I have to go home and that's one reason less for not studying

I start recording what I do today and this is what I have covered.

Paper: Sociology of Development
Chapter 1 - Emergence of the Concept of Development
Chapter 2 - State as an agent of Change/Development
Chapter 3 - Modernization theory.

Found Most Interesting:
Evolution of the Development project over the last 50 years

Found Most Confusing:
"Teleological approach is one where the purpose which is not explicitly intended by anyone is fulfilled while the process of fulfillment is presented as an inevitable sequence of events"

Plan for tomorrow:
Finish half of this book
